New Cervical Cancer Fund Targets Much-Needed Treatment Research

A managing director at JP Morgan Securities in Los Angeles, Gary Fournier previously held executive positions at companies such as UBS/Payne Webber, Smith Barney, and Kidder Peabody. After his wife contracted cervical cancer, he helped her establish the the Debi & Gary Fournier Cervical Cancer Research Fund at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. The new Cervical Cancer Research Fund seeks to provide support to women with cervical cancer and to offer financial assistance for research efforts in the field. Although cervical cancer affects more than 500,000 women yearly and has become fourth on the list of cancers affecting women, little progress has been made in research or updated treatments. When Debi discovered that reality through the cancer treatment process, she talked to oncologist Dr. Gottfried Konecny about the issue. He recommended she contact the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation. That recommendation ultimately led to the creation of the new research fund. N
